I thought it was brilliant because, in one sentence, it summed up the entire process.
Not doing something different just to attract attention.
Not designing something weird just for the sake of being weird.
But understanding an organization deeply enough to help it show the world what it actually is.
And then, when it finally goes out into the world, someone can look at it and think:
“This looks nothing like what I expected.”
In the best possible sense of the phrase.
Then I started thinking about everything that had to happen before that comment could ever exist. Someone on the other side of the world looking for people who could help them. Finding thousands of agencies and studios. Choosing a few. Sending a form. Us replying. Meeting each other. Sharing references from previous clients that could help build trust from thousands of kilometers away.
People at Captain Fresh opening up their business and their vision to us.
Until, quite some time later, all of that turns into a little over a minute of film and a digital experience that seems to tell the story naturally.
It’s a bit of a butterfly effect . And maybe that’s why I like this project so much.
Because we often talk about moving the needle for the organizations we work with.
But when a conversation begins, you don’t always know how much you’ll be able to move it.
You don’t always know how far a collaboration might grow.
And you definitely don’t know how many small decisions will have to align before something finally works.
Sometimes it all begins with a form.
And some time later, you find yourself looking at something finished and thinking:
It’s crazy how much had to happen for us to get here.
Maybe that’s a pretty good definition of what we do.
